Orange you glad we’re here?!?! Today we celebrate National vitamin C Day. Started in 2019 by skincare line SkinCeuticals, it was a way to highlight their new product but also to highlight the countless ways Vitamin C affects our bodies in a positive manner. National Vitamin C Day is dedicated to the science & power of Vitamin C. Also known as ascorbate and ascorbic acid, Vitamin C is found in multiple foods and is available in different dietary supplements. Vitamin C also does wonders for hair, skin and overall health; from aid the common cold to reducing blood pressure results.
Vitamin C was first discovered in 1912 and in 1933 became the first vitamin to be chemically produced. At its earliest discovery, Vitamin C was used to effectively prevent scurvy; which claimed the lives of millions of sailors between 1500 and 1800.
Along with oranges and lemons. Vitamin C can be found in other fruits as well; cantaloupe melon, citrus juices and fruits, kiwi fruit, pineapple, papaya, mango, and the various berries, such as cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries
Of course taking vitamin pills are always an option, but opting for citrus fruits or vegetables remains the superior option. Oranges, in particular offer a mix of antioxidants which isn’t the case with vitamin pills. Now of course do what works best for you and your lifestyle.
How to ensure you’re Vitamin C daily dosage
- Drink a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice
- Squeeze ½ a lemon into your water or on a salad
- Indulge in more fruits & veggies that contain Vitamin C
- Add a new Vitamin C serum to your skin care routine
