July 26th is National Disability Independence Day. On this day we recognize the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990. When passed, this act provided individuals with disabilities protection from employment discrimination, better access to services and better communication.

Since the passing of the ADA, the act has inspired structural changes in businesses, and even technological advancements allowing them to become more accessible to people with disabilities. These changes have allowed people with disabilities to participate fully in their community, independent living, and become more economically self-sufficient.
